The Clogher Record
This is the Society's annual journal. Published since 1953, it forms a well of knowledge on the local history of all parts of the diocese of Clogher. Our editorial committee sources and selects articles and is interested to hear from prospective contributors. The emphasis is on well-researched and written, original material with relevance to the history of the diocese of Clogher. The journal covers a broad range of topics, from archaeology to modern history - search our online index by author, topic or keyword - click here to go to the
index.
The
Clogher Record is particularly strong on the general history and the evolution of the diocese with articles such as Katherine Simms' 'The Origins of the Diocese of Clogher' in our 1980 issue or K. W. NIcholls' 'The Register of Clogher' in our 1971-72 journal. Smaller areas within the diocese are covered by parish histories, such as 'The Parish of Cleenish, District of Holywell' and 'The Parish of Magheracloone'.
Local families and estates, of both Gaelic and Plantation origin, are covered. Graveyard inscriptions, education, emigration and place-names are also well represented. There are a number of articles that deal with the Famine and two complete journals are dedicated to this subject. These contain a case study of the Roslea/Clones/Newbliss area and extensive extracts from the Distress and Relief Commission Papers on all parts of the diocese.
Our back issues contain a wealth of information on the position of the diocese in the borderlands and the associated politics: Partition, Sectarianism, Unionism, the UVF, Sinn Féin. We have contributions on the various religions present here: Presbyterianism, the Church of Ireland, the Catholic Church and Methodism and you can also find contacts for these organisations our
links page.

The Monaghan Story and
The Fermanagh Story, were both published by the Society, as was Patrick J. Duffy's invaluable work
Landscapes of South Ulster: a parish atlas of the diocese of Clogher. In 1966,
Cuimhneacháin Mhuineacháin 1916-1966 commemorated the 1916 Rebellion in County Monaghan and
A Medieval Pilgrimage to St Patrick's Purgatory was published in 1988.
